East Cooper Culinary Adventure

Travel with us across the Cooper River to the town of Mt. Pleasant. On this special tour we will learn not only about the cuisine of the lowcountry but also about the Gullah culture and the contributions of African Americans to that cuisine. Our first stop will be Boone Hall Plantation for a tour of the house and grounds. After our tour we will continue on to Boone Hall Farms Store which sells the produce grown at Boone Hall. Here we will have the opportunity to taste some of the local delicacies. Our next stop will be Shem Creek which has been the home of South Carolina Shrimpers for as long as anyone can remember. At Magwood Seafood we will see the shack where the shrimp caught that day are washed, iced, and stored. We will also learn all about the shrimp boats and the process they use trawling for shrimp right off shore in the Atlantic. The best part of the outing will be lunch at Red's Ice House which serves Magwood's Shrimp along with other delicious seafood caught locally.
